The Tigers picked Trammell out of high school in the second round of the 1976 draft, and just like Jack Morris (another Detroit draftee that year), Trammell was fast-tracked through the minors. After the draft, he played for the Bristol Tigers of the Appalachian League, before being promoted to the Double-A Montgomery Rebels to finish out the ’76 season. He spent the 1977 season in Montgomery, and was called up to the big leagues that September.

Minor league teams that Alan Trammell played for en route to the majors:

  • Bristol Tigers (Appalachian League)
  • Montgomery Rebels (Southern League)
