Derek Jeter

Hall of Fame, class of 2020




The New York Yankees selected Jeter out of Kalamazoo Central High with the 6th overall pick in the 1992 draft, and immediately assigned him to their Gulf Coast League affiliate. He was sent to the South Atlantic League late in the season to take a few hacks with the Greensboro Hornets. In 1993, he returned to Greensboro and spent the whole season there. In ’94, he was assigned to the Tampa Yankees of the Class A-Advanced Florida State League, but earned a midseason promotion to Double-A. He played 34 games with the Eastern League’s Albany-Colonie Yankees before get another bump up to Triple-A, spending August with the International League’s Columbus Clippers. He spent the lion’s share of 1995 in Columbus, but also made his MLB debut in May of that year.
