Bagwell was drafted out of college by Boston in 1989. He split that summer between the Gulf Coast League and the Florida State League’s Winter Haven Red Sox. He spent his entire 1990 season in his home state of Connecticut, playing for the Eastern League’s New Britain Red Sox. In the off-season, Boston traded him to Houston. The Astros didn’t mess around, and he broke spring training with the big league team in 1991.

Minor league teams that Jeff Bagwell played for en route to the majors:

  • GCL Red Sox (Gulf Coast League)
  • Winter Haven Red Sox (Florida State League)
  • New Britain Red Sox (Eastern League)
