Mariano Rivera

Hall of Fame, class of 2019

The Yankees signed Mariano Rivera as an amateur free agent out of Panama in 1990. He pitched in the GCL that season, and spent ‘91 with the Greensboro Hornets of the South Atlantic League. 1992 was an injury-shortened season in which he hurled 59 innings for the Fort Lauderdale Yankees in the Florida State League. 1993 was a rehab year, with a return to both the GCL and the Sally League. 1994 was an eventful season split between the three highest-level teams in New York’s system: the Tampa Yankees, Albany-Colonie Yankees, and Columbus Clippers. He started 1995 in Columbus, but found himself in the Bronx by May.
