Roberto Alomar

Hall of Fame, class of 2011

The Padres signed 17-year-old Robbie out of Puerto Rico in 1985, and sent him to play for the Charleston Rainbows that summer. In ‘86, he was promoted to the California League, and spent the whole season fielding grounders for the Reno Padres. 1987 was a Double-A year, and Alomar reunited with his brother Sandy Jr. on the Wichita Pilots. He started the ‘88 season back in Nevada with the Las Vegas Stars of the Pacific Coast League, but lasted only nine games at Triple-A before being called up to San Diego.
