In 1993, Guerrero was signed by Montréal as a teenage free agent out of the Dominican. The Expos waited until ‘94 to bring him to states, and he spent that summer with their Gulf Coast League affiliate. In ‘95, Vladi played a full season for the Albany Polecats in the Sally League. He began 1996 in the Florida State League with the West Palm Beach Expos, and quickly slugged his way up to Double-A with the Harrisburg Senators. He was called up Québec that September for his first taste of the major leagues at age 21.

Minor league teams that Vladimir Guerrero played for, en route to the majors:

  • GCL Expos (Gulf Coast League)
  • Albany Polecats (South Atlantic League)
  • West Palm Beach Expos (Florida State League)
  • Harrisburg Senators (Eastern League)
